Don’t Take Your Safety for Granted. Life is Precious.
Here’s what we know to be true:
On Sunday, July 28, a gunman fired 39 rounds at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in Northern California using a military-style rifle. Police found a 75-round drum magazine and five 40-round magazines near the gunman. Three victims died.
One week later in Dayton, Ohio, nine people were killed in an entertainment district by a gunman using an AR-style pistol modified to act as a rifle and a large capacity drum magazine.
The day before, twenty-two people were killed when a gunman with an AK-47 style rifle stormed into a Walmart and opened fire in El Paso, Texas.
What these horrific mass shootings have in common: Military-style, semi-automatic assault rifles and high-capacity magazines.
Only California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Vermont have enacted restrictions banning these types of guns (according to the Giffords Center to Prevent Gun Violence). The gunman in Gilroy purchased his military-style rifle in Nevada. The Ohio gunman purchased his gun from Texas.
We can all agree that to have this level of weaponry in civilian environments, unregulated, is deadly. No one in civilian life needs an assault-style rifle. Lawmakers continue to argue over terms of a federal ban on assault rifles. States are exploring “Red Flag Laws.”
We are left with action-less thoughts and insincere prayers.
Meanwhile, we are sending our children back to school this month. We continue to work, participate in community events and travel. Are we to accept that these mass shootings are inevitable? No. We will continue to fight for change.
Right now, however, common sense dictates we need to do more to empower ourselves. Left with these facts, we can protect ourselves and our children with a bulletproof vest that is rifle-certified and is tested for high-powered rifles such as AK-47’s and AR-15’s. Our hope is that you never have to use G1 bags as a shield. But, in a life-threatening situation, G1 can help protect you and your loved ones.
